Agarita berries or currant-of-Texas is a berry that grows natively in Central to Western Texas. The leaves of the plant resemble hollies with spikes at the end. The fruits are small round berries that are colored bright red. The agarita berries contain a juice that is sweet with a subtle tartness to it.

The mayhaw fruit, which grows on Hawthorne trees covered in thorns, resembles something of small crabapples or a cranberry. Mayhaw fruit is highly acidic and offers a bitter to sweet-sour flavor depending upon variety.

Also known as the Texas blackberry. The berries of dewberry plants are purplish red, similar to raspberries. The seeds are much larger and tougher than those of the blackberry and they are more tart than blackberries.
